Because TEMPUR-Material® responds to your body weight, shape, and temperature, it may feel firmer at first before gradually becoming more conforming and responsive over the first few weeks. At the same time, your body is also adjusting to a new type of support and pressure relief.
Many sleepers notice the biggest change during the first two to four weeks, and we recommend sleeping on your new mattress for at least 30 days to give the material time to fully adapt to your body**. During this period, it can be normal to notice temporary pressure in areas like the shoulders, hips, or lower back, as well as slight stiffness or unfamiliar support, especially if your previous mattress felt very different. These sensations typically improve as the mattress and your body adjust together.
Room temperature can also affect the feel of your mattress during this time. Cooler temperatures may make the TEMPUR-Material® feel firmer, while warmer temperatures can make it feel softer and more conforming. For best results, we recommend keeping your room between 68–72°F and avoiding external heat sources, such as electric blankets. While temperature may affect how the mattress feels at first, it does not change the long-term support the mattress provides.
