Why Do Aches and Pains Show Up at Night?

Nighttime discomfort can become more noticeable when the body stays in one position for long periods, which can increase pressure on certain areas. The shoulders, hips, and lower back are especially vulnerable if the mattress is not supporting the body evenly. A mattress that feels too firm may create added pressure at key contact points, while one that is too soft may allow the spine to rest out of alignment. Over the course of the night, that combination can place extra stress on muscles and joints, leading to soreness, stiffness, or discomfort by morning.
