If the bases have not been synced during the install process, they will operate independently. If they were synced during the installation, they will need to be unsynced. To unsync the bases, remove the battery cover, then press and hold the Sync button on the left side base remote until the button light blinks and then release. The speaker will provide the verbal cue "Disconnected."
