If I already have a base that should be compatible (e.g., a TEMPUR-ProSmart purchased in 2024), is there a way to complete a firmware update on the base if I just want to get a new split-head mattress?

No, there is no way to complete a firmware update on a previoulsy purchased base. The Tempur-Pedic Split Head Sleep System should be sold as a mattress and base set.
